Invitational Schools Team Chess Championships 2012

 

We received feedbacks from our supporters and well-wishers and we have acceded to requests to reformat the event.

It shall be known as the INVITATIONAL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012 for the MIND STRETCHER LEARNING CENTRE CHALLENGE CUP.

It will now be held on Sunday 29 July 2012.

We aplogies for an inconveniences caused so that we can cater for the larger chess comunity.

 

This serves as a preparatory event for schools to prepare their school teams for the forthcoming National Schools Team Chess Championship to be held sometiome in September 2012.

Organizer

The event is organized by the Eastern Knights Chess Club, managed by the Chess Academy (Singapore) Pte Ltd and shall be played under the FIDE Laws of Chess and the following rules and regulations. (SCF Rated Event).

 Categories

a)      Open (Open to All (JC/Secondary/Primary Schools) (without age and gender restrictions as at 1/1/12)

b)      Under 13 Open (as at 1 January 2012) (Open & Girls’ Teams)

c)      Under 11 Open (as at 1 January 2012) (Open & Girls’ Teams)

d)     Under 9 Open (as at 1 January 2012) (Open & Girls’ Teams)

Attire

All participants must be in their school or PE attire failing which they will be disqualified from the competition. 

Eligibility

Teams from Primary & Secondary Schools/JCs and International Schools are cordially welcome. Girls may join Open Teams and prizes shall also be awarded to top all-girls’ teams in each category. Each school shall be limited to one team per category (per gender – ie 1 team Open and I team Girls). The Organizers reserves the right to reject or accept entries and may at its discretion accept more than 1 team from invited schools. The Championships shall be limited to a total of 40 teams on a first come first served basis.

Venue

Katong Junction – 2nd Level Atrium, 451 Joo Chiat Road, Singapore 427664.

Time Limit

25 minutes per player to complete a game. FIDE Rule on Zero Start shall apply.

System of Play

Swiss system of 5 rounds with Swiss Manager Pairing using Game Points and Match Points. Recording of moves is not compulsory. In the event of a tie for rankings, Game Points, Match Points, WP, SB and PS shall be used in this order.  .

Prizes

Prizes (sponsored by Mind Stretcher Learning Centre) will be awarded to the Top 5 Open Teams and 3 Girls’ Teams in each category. The Organizers reserves the right to increase or reduce the number of prizes in each category as deem appropriate.

Rules & Regulations

Any disputes aside from FIDE Laws of Chess shall be vested with the Organizers whose decision shall be final and no correspondences would be entertained.

Team Composition & Board Order

Each Team shall comprised not more than 5 players and not less than 3 players and players must be placed in the respective order – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. No changes shall be allowed after the closing date. There shall not be any rating restrictions. The 5th named player can only play on the last board of the team for each match. For each wrong placing in the team, a default of 1 point shall be awarded to the opposing team. No player shall ‘leap-frog’ another team member. Eg if Player 1 is not playing, Player 2 will move up to 1st board and Player 3 to 2nd Board and so on.

Entry Fee

$ 85.00 per team – (Payable by IFAAS, Cash, Nets or crossed cheque to Chess Academy (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.  Refunds for withdrawal shall not be permitted.  

Closing Date

Shall be Sunday 8 July 2012 by 7.00 pm or the first 40 teams. Late entries shall not be entertained.

Indemnity

By consenting to take part in this event, participants declare that they will abide by the Rules and Regulations pertaining to this Tournament and they will not hold the Organizers responsible for any mishaps or injuries sustained during the course of the event.
