The Eastern Knights Chess Club is the latest to be set up in Singapore to meet the demands and aspirations of chess players residing in the eastern enclaves of Singapore. The club is conveniently located in Joo Chiat, Singapore latest Heritage Town. It is quite easily accessible by public transport and it offers an opportunity for chess players to get together to pursue their common interest and to be involved in a meaningful and enriching sport. There will also be opportunities for chess enthusiasts to develop and hone their chess skills to a higher level should they aspire to.
The club is registered with the Registry of Societies and affiliated to the Singapore Chess Federation, the national association for chess in Singapore. We pledge to support the activities and programs of the national federation and our national sports authority to achieve the desired objective to promote chess for all.
In the Constitution of the Club, we pledge to
a) To promote Chess by conducting trainings and practise sessions.
b) To organize and participate in chess events and competitions for the benefit of the members and the community at large.
c) To promote social interaction and community bonding through our activities.
At the moment, the club meets weekly, every Friday evenings from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm in the 2nd Level Atrium of Katong Junction, along 451 Joo Chiat Road. We have an on-going league where members try to chalk up as many points as possible playing against other members. We had and will continue to organise simultaneous matches and exhibitions against our local and foreign chess ‘celebrities’. We will organize regular chess competitions to enable our members to put into practise what they have learnt in class. The club plans to organise ‘thematic talks’ on chess where members will get a chance to learn from experts on the finer points of chess and chess strategies.
Membership to the club is very affordable and it is open to all Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and Foreigners on approved employment or dependent passes. There are 3 categories of memberships – junior members (under 18 years), ordinary members and associate member. Members need only pay for a one time entrance fee. There will not be any monthly membership fee however members may be call upon for contributions toward special events.
NB : Members meet every Fridays from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm at the Katong Junction – Level 2 Atrium. All are welcome.
